About Shy: Shyhyamala Vishnumohan is a Food Scientist and registered Nutritionist, passionate about real, honest and nutritious foods. Shy moved from South India to Australia in 2003 as a recipient of the highly competitive International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS). Her educational background includes a Masters in Food and Nutrition (PSG college of Arts and Science, India) and a PhD in Food Science and Technology (University of New South Wales, Sydney). Her research background encompasses the areas of food science, nutrition, biochemistry and functional food product development to tackle chronic health conditions like diabetes and obesity.
Her career highlight was in 2011 when she took on a role as the Food Science Project Officer for Coorow Seeds, one of the key growers and processors of lupins in Western Australia. In 2016, she was appointed as a consultant to work with the Grain Industry Association of WA (GIWA) on the ‘PASE’ Lupins as Food project to support small lupin exporters in Western Australia to evolve their market entry strategy for the Middle East. She is also an Adjunct Associate lecturer at UNSW.
