About the Talk: Developing and Funding Agtech for Farmers with Ideas
What are the major challenges facing the commercialisation of ideas related to agtech and food production? How can we better collaborate and leverage existing opportunities (and expertise) to advance the sector? This presentation will explore opportunities for funding and support to facilitate connections between researchers, producers, start-ups and agribusiness, which are critical for innovation and growth in agriculture. Strategies for taking ideas from the paddock or lab to global markets will be discussed.
About the Speaker: Dr Natasha Ayers, Managing Director and Cofounder of AgriStart Pty Ltd
Tash is the Managing Director of AgriStart, a new company that facilitates innovation and commercialisation training and mentoring for researchers and businesses working in agriculture. Tash comes from a farming background and spent 8 years as an agricultural scientist in Australia and overseas. She has spent the last 5 years in research management and founded iPREP WA (www.iprep.edu.au), a unique program involving researchers from all 5 WA universities undertaking projects in industry, which won the 2017 Australian Council of Graduate Research award for industry engagement and was a finalist in the Premier’s Science awards in 2016. She has been on the judging panel for the Innovator of the Year awards for the last 2 years and was Chief Examiner for the Plant Productions ATAR exam for 5 years. She has a PhD in Plant Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1st Class Hons), and has qualifications in university teaching, research commercialisation and leadership.
